The Advanced Boolean Expression Language (ABEL) is a Hardware Description Language (HDL) and an associated set of design tools for programming PLD. It was created in 1983 by Data I/O Corporation, in
The output files produced by the ABEL software are equations files and JEDEC fuse file in standard format to interface with other equipment. JEDEC fuse file is able to download directly to PLD programmers and PROM format files to allow PROM programming. ABEL HDL describes the hardware structure on its functional run (the output signals are function of the variation of the input signals). There are other hardware description languages such as Verilog and VHDL. ABEL is simpler than Verilog or VHDL which is capable of describing systems of larger complexity.
